The answer that came so clearly was to help people.

When we feel overwhelmed by life’s problems, we may want to try to get more from the world. But when we do the opposite–give more of ourselves or focus on the God-given qualities we already have to express or contribute, we find that we end up not lacking anything.

The Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s writings have guided me from childhood. In my teens, I toured with a musical band but always believed my lifework was to serve the Cause of Christian Science.

As a teenager, I found myself ill and far from home. The night before I was taken for a medical exam, I stayed awake pondering a single question with all my heart: “What does it mean to be a Christian Scientist?” As dawn began to break, the answer came: “To follow the teachings and example of Christ Jesus,” including the commands to “heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons.” This answer brought an assurance of God’s love and healing presence, and a deep yearning to be a more dedicated follower of Christ.

In one of my earliest memories, I’m climbing onto my dad’s lap. I wasn’t feeling well and though I don’t remember the exact words, we talked about how God’s love was all around me.

I grew up near Boston with parents who loved and lived Christian Science.  But it wasn’t until I struck out on my own and worked overseas that I realized Mrs. Eddy’s revelation was for me too.  On returning home, I joined a branch church and took Primary class instruction.

Christian Science as a way of life and a complete system of healing is the only thing I’ve ever known. For four generations my family, including my daughter, have chosen this system and found it thoroughly reliable and effective.

I am a Journal-listed Christian Science practitioner and teacher, who truly enjoys working for God. All of my life, I have looked for spiritual answers.

I was born and raised in Paysandú, a city on the shores of the Uruguay River. I had never heard about Christian Science until the time I met the man who was to be my husband. To me, God felt always like a close but fearsome friend. Learning about God as supreme, ever near Love, was a turning point in my life. Then I wanted to learn more about this Science that was making me understand my true identity as God’s likeness. A few years later, when we already had four children, I sought class instruction. The desire to benefit others with the knowledge I was gaining from the study and by my own experiences, inevitably followed, and I became listed as a Christian Science practitioner in the Journal and the Spanish Herald . Impelled by the desire to broaden the sharing of what I am learning about God, divine Love, I applied and was accepted in the 2009 Normal class. Sharing what I am learning is a joyous task, overflowing with happiness.
