Helping others learn how prayer can bring healing

Many people today wonder whether prayer can make a difference. Christian Science practitioners are convinced it can. They’ve seen that prayer works. They’ve experienced real healing proof of God’s care. And they are available to help others bring healing to their own lives.

Christian Science treatment

Prayer itself can be a simple desire to feel closer to God. Christian Science treatment is specific prayer based on the method by which Christ Jesus healed in his ministry. When Jesus prayed, he didn’t just hope that prayer would work. He knew God so well that he was able to apply divine laws that healed—consistently and effectively. This type of prayer consists of faith in God, a spiritual understanding of God, and unselfed love (see Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 1:1–4). Practitioners help anyone apply this same, scientifically Christian method of healing.

A practitioner will pray for you, and along with you, to help you overcome any problem you may be facing. Specific prayer in Christian Science (also known as Christian Science treatment) is not positive thinking or relying on the human mind for healing. Rather, it is turning to the presence and power of God, good. This deepens our sense of God and transforms us—resulting in healing.

How someone experiences this is individual. Healing is often accompanied by a shift in thought, a graceful uplifting, or a feeling of love. A practitioner may provide insights from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy to help you learn more about God’s power and find comfort and healing. Your conversation with a practitioner is completely confidential.

You can contact practitioners advertising in the Christian Science Directory, found in The Christian Science Journal. You can reach out by phone, email, and sometimes by text, and can meet them in person or work remotely.

Yes. Everyone deserves to feel safe and experience good health. You don’t need to be a Christian Scientist or a member of the church to work with a practitioner. Practitioners work directly with their patient. If you are inquiring on behalf of someone else, reach out to a practitioner to discuss how the practitioner can best connect with the patient.

Practitioners are self employed and don’t receive any form of payment from the Church. They do charge a reasonable fee for their services in the spirit of Jesus’ guidance in the Bible that “the labourer is worthy of his hire” (Luke 10:7). Practitioners are happy to discuss their fees with patients in advance.

A Journal-listed Christian Science practitioner advertises their practice in The Christian Science Journal. They are individuals who have chosen to dedicate their lives full time to following the example of Christ Jesus. Their life experience has built in them a deep faith and trust in God. It has shown them that Christian Science treatment can resolve and heal any issue. To advertise, they must have had Primary class instruction from an authorized teacher of Christian Science, and go through an evaluation process with The Mother Church, which includes verified healing references.
