A welcoming space to explore spiritual resources and pray
A Reading Room is not just a room to read in—it’s a public space where people can pray and find inspiration through nurturing a connection to God. Reading Rooms are maintained by a local Christian Science church, where you can:
Bring your questions and find spiritual answers to today’s challenges.
Speak with a staff member to learn how prayer can help you.
Discover books and publications to support your spiritual journey.
Bring your questions—and discover healing answers
Anyone is welcome to visit a Reading Room. You don’t need to be a Christian Scientist, Christian, or religious. Bring your questions and talk to the staff, or you can explore on your own. The space is meant to support your spiritual growth—in any form that may take. Having questions about God and spirituality is normal and natural. In a Reading Room you can explore those questions and discover answers and healing.
What’s a Reading Room like inside? What should I expect?
Every Reading Room will look different. Some have their own store front; some are located within a church. Some are fully staffed with regular hours; some are staffed by volunteers a few hours a week. But in every Reading Room, you can expect to find someone willing to talk with you about God and spirituality. You’ll find books and literature to support your spiritual growth, as well as the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The space will look different, but the core mission to support your spiritual journey is always the same.
Supporting people and helping them discover answers to questions is the goal—not converting people to Christian Science. The staff may speak to how Christian Science has brought healing to their life. They may answer your questions through a lens of Christian Science. But again, the goal is to help you and assist you in your spiritual journey.
