Practicing healing in the way Christ Jesus taught
The Bible is full of accounts of healing. Healing in Christian Science is centrally rooted in the teachings and example of Christ Jesus. Jesus said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also” (John 14:12) and “These signs shall follow them that believe” (Mark 16:17). These statements were not just for Jesus’ disciples—they are for all of us. We strive to follow his teachings, which include Christian healing and the regeneration of thought that happens with it. The more we understand our relationship to God, the more we can experience healing.
Healing is available and can feel natural to all
Healing is the outcome of a better understanding of our relationship to God. The more we learn about our relationship to God, the more natural healing can feel. How you grow in your understanding of God is often unique and individual. In Christian Science, it can include:
Any heartfelt prayer
Studying the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
Working with a Christian Science practitioner on a specific healing
Finding support in a church community
Christian Science is not New Age, faith healing, or positive thinking
Christian Science is distinct from these practices because it relies on God, the divine Mind, as the source of redemption and healing. The human mind, mind over matter, or positive thinking, are not factors in spiritual healing. Christian Scientists do not accept suffering as God’s will. They trust God's love and goodness and find it brings salvation from sin and sickness.
What do we mean by “healing”?The concept of healing is a central one in Christian Science. Here are some examples from the Christian Science magazines that show the breadth of what it includes:
