Effective prayer is more than thinking good thoughts, or begging a far off God to intervene, it is a recognition of the transforming power of God’s law in our lives. Jesus provided strong examples of what prayer can do, and expected his followers for centuries to come to do the same.

I have always loved the Scriptures. Growing up in a Christian Science home, my family turned to the Bible daily for guidance, strength, and practical help.

While working in television in New York City, after college and studying/traveling in Europe and Africa, I was awakened to a keen desire to really know myself spiritually and to be more a part of Church’s healing mission. Primary class instruction transformed my life. Working for The Mother Church, in Boston, enhanced my appreciation of Church. Communing with God led me to obediently and faithfully begin publicly practicing Christian Science, and I have been gratefully healing others for over 35 years. My prayers led me to St.

“What should I do with my life?” Lisa often wondered during her early twenties. She wasn’t sure where she was headed, but she was praying to be of service to humanity.

Christian Science found me while I was just a young person. I had been fairly content with life, but my experiences and something within were showing me that life had a bigger significance than what appeared.

Awful poverty in a polygamous family--these words describe well the condition in which I first became aware of my existence in the remote countryside of South-Eastern Togo, West Africa, where I was born. Traditional animism, worship of and belief in many spirits, nurtured my heathen early education.

To get to the bottom of events, to know how something really is: that has motivated me since my childhood, to ask questions. Quite early, I found answers in music, while playing the piano and composing; tones, sounds, and rhythms opened great, wonderful spaces.

A friend invited me to a Christian Science testimony meeting. That started me on a spiritual journey that has taken me from merely believing in God to a growing understanding of God as Love itself, an all-powerful and ever-present Parent.

Christian Science healing. I love those words! In my teen years, I suffered from a skin condition that would come and go. During this time I studied Christian Science deeply.

As a small girl I attended Christian Science Sunday School in Provo, Utah. I remember distinctly learning that God is Love, and accepting it as true.
