This is the UK title for How spiritual perception brings healing. How can we move away from fear, sickness, and strife into something better? Prayer, as it’s explained through the lens of Christian Science, is a tool for bringing a different viewpoint, and ultimately healing, to any situation.

At an early age I found Christian Science to be the surest Comforter.  It was my close companion from teen years into adulthood, healing and sustaining me during tough times and providing counsel and assurance through many decisions related to family, education, and career.

For a long time, I felt like I was doing everything I was supposed to do –– pursuing a meaningfulcareer, helping others, and building a life that looks successful on the outside. And yet,underneath it all, there was a persistent sense that something was missing. I followed my desire to help people by earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in socialwork and spent over a decade working as a psychotherapist.

I became acquainted with Christian Science thanks to a niece of mine who was born deaf and dumb and was healed by a Christian Scientist in 1973. I started investigating Science through the Bible Lessons . I was then healed of a violent headache and of a white spot on one of my eyes. After I shared a few spiritual truths with a friend, he was healed of malaria.

"My prayer some daily good to do to Thine for Thee .." These words from a poem by Mary Baker Eddy, reflect the impetus of my life from early childhood. Raised in South Africa during the apartheid era by parents who practised Christian Science, I felt uncomfortably “doubly advantaged” – racially by State law, spiritually by what Sunday School taught about God's law.

When I was 21 I found myself in desperate straits. I was practically failing college, was addicted to drugs, in a bad marriage, alienated from any family and was on the verge of a serious mental breakdown. At that time, suicide seemed the only answer.
