Christian Science is a way of life to me. As a third-generation Christian Scientist I experienced many healings when I was growing up, but it was only when I was a University student in South Africa and a member of the Christian Science College Organisation that I discovered its practicality and effectiveness.

I learned of Christian Science in my middle teens. Our family came to it through a “miraculous” healing of a relative. I tested it, and was amazed at the consistent results. The Science proved to be genuinely scientific. Its practice became the basis of my studies and early career. That career took some radically different zigs and zags. From research director at an international relations and mediation institute in Italy, to labor organizer in New England, to foundation director, to university professor, to peace and civil rights activist, to founding an anti-racism project which was the basis of the YWCA “Social Justice Award”. The focus, the common denominator of these careers, was solving problems.

I’m blessed that two of the great loves of my life – teaching and Christian Science – come together in what constitutes, for me, a perfect lifework. As a little girl, I loved Mrs.

When I was a freshman at Dartmouth College, I had a nagging desire to take the winter semester off and read Mary Baker Eddy's book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, from cover to cover. I felt a deep conviction that the world needed a spiritual revolution and that the contents of this book offered the catalyst.

I grew up in Malaga, Spain. My desire to serve others led me to join the Society of Jesus where I was an ordained priest.

As a small child, I always felt at home in church. The more I learned about Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy, the more they became close friends, whose teachings showed me how God’s love and tender care heal and protect me, and others, from illness and danger. Growing up, I had powerful proof that Christian Science heals, and is reliable and transformative. These healings, including a diagnosed case of strep throat, inspired me to help others realize the healing power that comes from an understanding of God as infinite, divine Principle, Love.

Christian Science has always been most precious to me. I was raised in it, and I can honestly say there was never a time when I didn't think of myself as a Christian Scientist.

Growing up in a loving Christian Science home in California, I witnessed and experienced many healings through prayer. Later, after unfruitful years of exploring different modes of thinking and behavior, I found myself drawn back to the truths, the universal spiritual laws I had learned as a child--the pure and deeply practical teachings of Christian Science.  I knew this was the Truth -- the unwavering nature of God's love, the supreme power and grace of God's goodness -- that I had found nowhere else.  I experienced healing and a deep yearning to understand more of God, which led me to take Primary class in 1983.

I was raised attending Christian Science Sunday schools all over the world because my father was a journalist for The Christian Science Monitor . However, I did not make this teaching my own until my late twenties when I was totally confused about my life purpose.  I worked in finance in New York, London and Tokyo, went to cooking school in Paris, and worked as a cook.  A conversation with a friend about how to find direction in life, led me back to Christian Science.

I was a teenager when Christian Science entered my life, a woman handed me her unwanted periodicals. I read them and was intrigued by the way God was defined as impartial, all-inclusive Love. I felt that God was leading my life in a new direction.
