In my twenties, religion seemed outdated, irrelevant, boring. It was the ‘60s – the era of recreational drugs, the war in Vietnam, and the ‘sexual revolution.’ After attending graduate school in New York, I pursued a career on Madison Avenue in advertising and marketing.

As a child growing up in Nevada and California, our family was very enterprising. Though we didn’t have a great deal materially, I watched as my mother’s brand new study of Christian Science began to bring much good into our lives.

My family was introduced to Christian Science after my great uncle was healed of a debilitating disease. From a young age, I felt a strong desire to travel and help others.

Christian Science came into my family when Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy healed two of my great grandmothers of incurable diseases. Faithful teachers in Sunday School taught me to love the Bible and to practice its teachings.

A beautiful healing of my mother of an enlarged heart brought our family into Christian Science. I grew up in Texas and I’ve always been a seeker for Truth. But during my university studies in graphic arts, I had a challenging physical problem that impelled me to continually read Science and Health.

As I was born and brought up in a Hindu family in Northern India, I was totally unaware of Christian Science till someone gifted me a copy of Science and Health with key to the Scriptures in 1975. Understanding the effectiveness of scientific prayer I was impelled to form a group of Christian Scientists that became a Society recognized by The Mother Church in 1983.

I live in the country in Salem, Oregon, where I teach my classes in a tree house environment. I think of my students as an extension of our large diverse family.

I became acquainted with Christian Science thanks to a niece of mine who was born deaf and dumb and was healed by a Christian Scientist in 1973. I started investigating Science through the Bible Lessons . I was then healed of a violent headache and of a white spot on one of my eyes. After I shared a few spiritual truths with a friend, he was healed of malaria.

When I was a freshman at Dartmouth College, I had a nagging desire to take the winter semester off and read Mary Baker Eddy's book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, from cover to cover. I felt a deep conviction that the world needed a spiritual revolution and that the contents of this book offered the catalyst.

I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, and enjoyed a very happy upbringing. I credit my parents, through their practice and understanding of Christian Science, with instilling in me a love for God and church.
