The Bible is at the heart of Christian Science practice. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, written by Mary Baker Eddy, explores the underlying spiritual law in biblical healing and reformation and how it is applicable to all human needs. Together the Bible and Science and Health are the textbooks used by branches of the Church of Christ, Scientist around the world, which affirms as one of its core tenets: “As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.”

I was born into a Christian family that I left at the age of 10. It wasn’t until years later that I began to believe there really is a superior being, God, who created the universe.

I grew up with parents who loved and practiced Christian Science, and I experienced consistent and decisive healings as a kid and teen. After my daughter was born, and while still in the hospital, I was instantly healed of an extremely high and life-threatening fever, much to the amazement of the medical staff.  Even so, a few years later, while going through some really tough times, I stepped away from Christian Science. This wasn’t a bad thing, though, because it was during this time that I did some deep soul-searching and honest questioning which developed into more appreciation for God and what God is. That spiritual curiosity led to satisfying answers and continues to this day. More committed than ever to practicing spiritual healing, I started receiving calls from friends and family who were seeking healing.  I’ve worked in a variety of editorial positions for The Christian Science Publishing Society, which has only deepened my love for all that Mary Baker Eddy established and shared with the world. I began advertising in The Christian Science Journal as a Christian Science practitioner in 2017 and went through Normal class to become an authorized teacher of Christian Science in 2024.

As a child growing up in Nevada and California, our family was very enterprising. Though we didn’t have a great deal materially, I watched as my mother’s brand new study of Christian Science began to bring much good into our lives.

A beautiful healing of my mother of an enlarged heart brought our family into Christian Science. I grew up in Texas and I’ve always been a seeker for Truth. But during my university studies in graphic arts, I had a challenging physical problem that impelled me to continually read Science and Health.

I love to stretch the boundaries of long-held notions about human life and its limitations. The more I understand the one infinite and benevolent God, the more I grow to expect that good is ever-operative. When at a crossroads in my career, my love for mankind prompted me to realize that I was most needed for my commitment to spiritual healing, so I entered the Christian Science healing practice. Before dedicating myself full-time to this practice, my faith in God was tested as a student, an active businesswoman, an educator, and a stepmother to adolescent children. My career included serving as one of the early women hired in a non-clerical position by the U.S.

Christian Science as a way of life and a complete system of healing is the only thing I’ve ever known. For four generations my family, including my daughter, have chosen this system and found it thoroughly reliable and effective.

A friend invited me to a Christian Science testimony meeting. That started me on a spiritual journey that has taken me from merely believing in God to a growing understanding of God as Love itself, an all-powerful and ever-present Parent.

During college, a significant healing established me on a path to not only better know and understand God, but also to understand why that mattered . After being ill in bed for a week, I was healed overnight after a Christian Science practitioner (whom I’d asked to pray for me) spoke to me about the First Commandment in a way that challenged and revitalized my thinking.
