Plaza Activities Host Internship

Are you a people person — or would you like to be? If Christian Science is your way of life, and you would like to gain practical experience in hospitality while developing the ability to think on your feet and share spiritual concepts and general information with others, consider serving as a Plaza Activities Host and welcome visitors to The Christian Science Plaza. The Plaza is a treasured destination for Church members, neighbors, college students, and visitors from around the world. The aim of Plaza Activities (PA) is to offer each guest a thought-changing experience that inspires hope through the “How Do You See the World?” exhibits, tours, programs, and events.

The work of an Intern Host puts you at the very hub of this activity, where you will support, and be supported by, our dedicated team of Plaza Activities Hosts. Team members receive training in public speaking, and learn about:

  • The history of Christian Science, its founder, Mary Baker Eddy, and The Christian Science Monitor, and

  • The buildings on the Christian Science Plaza, their purpose, and their architecture.

The summer of 2026 is expected to be a very active and exciting time, pulling in visitors from around the world to Boston to experience FIFA World Cup matches and events commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the United States of America. It is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the team welcoming those visitors to the global home of Christian Science.

Opportunities Include:

  • Learn to give a basic tour of the Mapparium and other sites on the Christian Science Plaza.

  • Discover your natural ability to clearly and comfortably answer visitors’ questions about Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, The Mother Church, and the history of the Christian Science movement.

  • Assist in planning and carrying out events taking place on the Plaza.

  • Welcome visitors through serving as a host outside on the 13.5 acre Christian Science Plaza.

Desired qualifications:

  • Delight in sharing Christian Science with the public, and the desire to do so more effectively.

  • Strong interest in learning about Mrs. Eddy’s life and the history of her Church.

  • Self-discipline and keen attention to timing.

  • Flexibility and good humor, especially useful in handling unanticipated schedule changes.

  • Ability to take direction well and receive public-speaking assessments positively.

  • Ability to self-manage when appropriate, to finish assigned tasks independently, and to request help when needed.

  • Reading, listening, and hands-on practice is key to success in PA training sessions. Writing and basic math skills are useful.

  • Ability to listen to visitors with patience, particularly if there seems to be a language barrier.

  • Comfortability with long periods of walking and standing, broken up by short periods of desk time.

  • Proficiency in or familiarity with a non-English language is an asset in PA work, but is not required.

Ideally, the candidate is an engaged member of The Mother Church and is actively involved with a branch church or Christian Science Organization at a college or university

Christian Science Class Instruction is very helpful, but is not a requirement.
