Each summer, college students intern with The Mother Church in Boston to gain professional experience, new friendships, and deepen their commitment to Christian Science. They bring fresh ideas and contribute unique skills to the Christian Science movement.
The 2021 summer internship program will run 11 weeks, from June 1 - August 13. It will be fully online.
Internship deadline extended to February 8.
What Do Interns Do?
Interns spend about 90% of their time working for a single church department and 10% of their time as a group. This dynamic structure allows them to work with a lot of people at The Mother Church and receive professional mentoring from a variety of supervisors. During group time they will gain a deeper understanding of the full range of resources and programs which The Mother Church supports, and will have opportunities to contribute to them.
What Kind of Work?
Internships are offered in a wide variety of study areas: marketing, program and event planning, community building, publishing, editorial, financial management, and more. Ideally, each intern finds work directly related to her or his field of study.
What Do Interns Do as a Group?
About 10% of the interns’ time will be spent as a group where they will:
Learn from Church Officers and managers around the organization
Gain a greater understanding of church
Provide feedback on new resources and products
Support the organization through special projects
Who Can Apply?
Current university and graduate students, as well as those who have graduated within the past year are eligible. Applicants are spiritual thinkers who are proactive in their churches, communities, or universities. Above all, interns must be committed to the healing mission of Christian Science.
Applicants from anywhere in the world are welcome to apply. To do so, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Access to stable and fast internet
Fluency in English
A commitment to working normal business hours, based on Boston’s time zone
What’s the Compensation?
Interns will receive a $250/week living stipend, as well as a housing allowance that will be determined based on the country from which they will be working. The living stipend and housing are taxable benefits. Interns who are Mother Church members and are returning to school after the internship program may be eligible to receive an Albert Baker Fund educational grant award after their successful completion of the program.
What's the Application Process?
Just fill out the online application and either attach your resume and cover letter in the application or email them to email@example.com. Please be sure to tell us your field of study and what you’d like to do at The Mother Church. We interview most applicants; however due to the volume of applications we receive, unfortunately we are not able to meet with everyone. There will be two rounds of interviews. The first will be with the Internship Coordinator and the second will be with sponsoring departments.
Applications are due by February 8, 2021. Final decisions will be made by mid-March.
