Prelude

Melody in G major by Alexandre Guilmant
Präludium by Moritz Brosig

Hymn 49

John Greenleaf Whittier*, words
Frederick C. Maker, music

Dear Lord and Father of us all,
Forgive our foolish ways;
Reclothe us in our rightful mind;
In purer lives Thy service find,
In deeper reverence, praise.

In simple trust like theirs who heard,
Beside the Syrian sea,
The gracious calling of the Lord,
Let us, like them, without a word
Rise up and follow thee.

Breathe through the pulses of desire
Thy coolness and Thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind and fire,
O still small voice of calm.

Drop Thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from us now the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.

Readings

Readings from the Bible, and correlative passages from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

Prayer

Silent Prayer, followed by the audible repetition of the Lord's Prayer, its spiritual interpretation being omitted.

Hymn 288

M. Bettie Bell, words
Arthur S. Sullivan, music

Press on, dear traveler, press thou on,
I am the Way, the Truth, the Life.
It is the straight and narrow way
That leads to that eternal day,
That turns the darkness into light,
That buries wrong and honors right.

Press on, and know that God is all;
He is the Life, the Truth, the Love.
It is the way the Saviour trod,
It is the way that leads to God.
Think of the words: No cross, no crown;
Though tasks are sore, be not cast down.

Hymn 546

Washington Gladden, alt., words
Flor Peeters; transc. and adapt. CSPS, music

O Master, let me walk with thee
In lowly paths of service free;
Tell me your secret; help me bear
The strain of toil, the fret of care.

Help me the slow of heart to move
By some clear winning word of love;
Teach me the wayward feet to stay,
And guide them in the homeward way.

Teach me your patience; still with thee
In closer, dearer company,
In work that keeps faith sweet and strong,
In trust that triumphs over wrong.

In hope that sends a shining ray
Far down the future’s broadening way;
In peace that God alone can give,
With you, O Master, let me live.
