A bookstore and a quiet place for study and prayer, where everyone is welcome
Here you can read or buy the Bible and all the books by Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science. You can also read and listen to more than 100 years of articles, testimonies, and recordings that give first-hand accounts of physical and moral healing through prayer. Our library nook includes Bible reference books and biographies of Mary Baker Eddy.
The Mother Church Reading Room remodeling project gets underway in November 2022 and is anticipated to be completed by summer 2023. Pop-up space at 184 Massachusetts Ave. is now open!
We will remain in this space while construction is underway at 194 Massachusetts Ave. (see image below). This pop-up space will remain open throughout the remodeling project. All of the same resources and events will be offered, and we hope you will visit often!
Our hours are:
Tuesday–Saturday: 10:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Wednesday until 7:00 p.m.
Sunday: 11:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
You might say a reading room serves two primary purposes: to provide authorized Christian Science literature and to offer a peaceful atmosphere in which to read, learn about, or purchase that literature. The new design keeps this mission firmly in mind, combining a space to meet, browse, purchase and ask questions, along with a place to read and contemplate.
Once completed, the Reading Room will have:
a sales area with products displayed more clearly
a new kid’s corner with children’s books
peaceful nooks for prayer, reading, and contemplation
a dedicated community space for Reading Room-sponsored events
a more comfortable and functional staff area
improved accessibility for all visitors
The design also gives special attention to conveying a warm and clear welcome to all by offering a small outdoor seating area out front, more visibility into the space from the sidewalk, and more.
Stay tuned! This page will be periodically refreshed with the latest project updates.
We look forward to seeing you at the Reading Room sometime soon.
