Treasurer's Office Internship

The Mother Church has a centralized financial and business management function in the Treasurer’s Office.  The objective of this position is to provide the Intern with broad exposure to the activities of the Treasurer’s Office, as well as the opportunity to gain practical experience in the areas of finance, accounting, and institutional investing.

Overview activities:

  • Introductory meetings with each of the primary functions of the Treasurer’s Office including Investments, Philanthropy (fundraising), Estates and Trusts (donations received through wills and trusts), Benevolence (grant making), Accounting, Procurement, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Benefits and Payroll.

  • Participation in staff meetings of the Investments, Philanthropy, Estates and Trusts, and Benevolence teams.

Special Projects:

  • Assist in the preparation of the quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors on investments.

  • Gain experience analyzing audited financial statements of the investment managers of the Church’s investment portfolio to determine the amount of fees charged by each manager. Learn how to compare portfolio level fees to industry averages. Draft a report to be reviewed by the Finance Committee of the Church.

  • Assist the Financial Assistance Officer in the Benevolence area with the review and reconciliation of grants made by The Mother Church to support mission-related activities.

  • Draft communications to participants in the Church’s retirement plan about features of the plan and upcoming educational or advisory meetings.

  • Assist various areas of the Treasurer’s Office in a variety of processes and projects.

Program Dates: May 20 - August 2, 2024

Compensation: Interns receive a $400/week living stipend, as well as housing near The Mother Church. They will also receive a $900 grant upon completion of the internship. These payments are taxable benefits.
