Board of Lectureship Internship

This internship will provide an inside look at how the Board of Lectureship (BoL) office in Boston helps to support Christian Science lecturers as they travel all over the world delivering the message of Christian Science. The nature of the internship activities will depend on the applicant’s skills and cultural & regional context.

This person will help us to define best practices for promotional materials in regions outside the US and, in collaboration with the Promotions and Design Services group (PDSG), shape the BoL’s strategy for social video content.

Opportunities:

  • Participate in staff meetings— and gain a working knowledge of the internal operations of the Board of Lectureship office

  • Learn how lectures and lecture tours are planned and executed

  • Learn how The Mother Church supports branches worldwide in promoting lectures

  • Learn how short-form lecture videos are developed, edited, posted and promoted

  • Gain experience with visual management techniques for project planning and work management

  • Learn how lecturers reach remote audiences through livestreaming, and the technical elements of livestreaming

  • Present, collaborate, and workshop creative ideas about short-form (10 minutes or less) videos with consideration to these questions:

  • What kind of lecture formats and content are needed today?

  • How might lecture videos or other content connect with different audiences on the web and social media with assistance from BoL and PDSG staff?

  • Research promotional activities and formats for different regions of the world and help define BoL’s approach

Desired Qualifications and Qualities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to Christian Science

  • Spiritual maturity

  • Self-starter, naturally curious, creative

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Courage to face challenges head on, humility to ask for help quickly, ability to maintain lightheartedness

  • Experience with any of the following: video production and editing, photography, audio editing, graphic or motion design/animation

  • Fluency in a second language (French, German, Spanish, or Portuguese, especially) preferred

  • Familiarity with a country or region outside the US

  • Good at asking questions

Program Dates: May 20 - August 2, 2024

Compensation: Interns receive a $400/week living stipend, as well as housing near The Mother Church. They will also receive a $900 grant upon completion of the internship. These payments are taxable benefits.
