Response to article on infinity and the big bang

© 2007Derby Evening Telegraph "The work of a great creator"

I Found John Hyde's thought-provoking article on Infinity and the Big Bang (Evening Telegraph, August 11) to be most interesting.

My own take on this topic is via a different path, for I believe in the first place we have to ask "What constitutes reality?"

Not really a stupid question, when we consider that what we call matter has been shown to be mainly space!

Also, problems arise when we reason, as John Hyde did, from effect back to cause.

When reasoning from cause to effect, from creator to creation, surely the creator must of necessity be that which is self-existent?

As this is something beyond mortal sight, I find the biblical term "spirit", or God, to be quite acceptable.

If the creator is spirit, doesn't it follow that in essence, creation must be spiritual, not material?

To me, the loveliness of the countryside, mountains, birds, flowers, sky etc, all hint at the wonders and glory of spiritual creation unseen by human eyes.

As for the six days of creation, maybe, like many passages in the Bible, these are not meant to be taken literally -- they could indicate six stages of enlightened thought, for light is recorded as being the first step of creation.
