I usually hesitate asking God for signs. That can be from my old way of thinking, and not Science.
My question is, do the lines ever get blurred when asking for a healing? It is a demonstration, but can it ever be confused with asking for a sign, testing God so to speak?

Hi Nancy --
Good stuff to think about...I have to say that I don't think I ever ask God for a healing. My prayers are more focused on God and who He is and who I am as His spiritual idea. And then healing comes! :)

Hi Nancy, One time when I was praying about a developmental disability for one of my relatives, I did pray for a sign. I wanted to know that I was on the right track with my prayers, and the next day this relative, who rarely spoke and only with great difficulty, did speak three clear and complete sentences, in a row. To me, it was the answer I needed, at that moment, and I continue to pray for this relative. I've found that when I really listen for answers and expect them, I do get the answers I need. It's more of being aware of what God is, and what He/She is doing rather than asking God to do something for me. It's kind of like Elijah asking God to open the eyes of Elisha, to see what's already there.

Nancy,
Good question. I sometimes ask God to give me direction. But afterwards, I realize after quieting my thoughts, he has already supplied me with what I need. I like to use the quote from the Science and Health : "Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedon to speach and action." (p. 454:19-21). When your "motives" are true, you will be guided to take the right "action". I also like to think that, "trials are proofs of God's care." (S & H p.66:10-11). We are on a continuous journey, developing and growing in our understanding. Through our studying and practicing, we gain a higher and truer understanding of God and man.
Thanks for the question, everyone's questions; they have been a wonderful tool for growth and healing.

Hi,
I have been reading the chapter on Prayer for years. And I am always fine tuning. I've heard of wonderful healings when the patient did nothing but say "father, i'm lost and can do nothing more. show me."
You might want to take the very question your asking, to the Chapter on Prayer in Science and Health. I'm sure the answers you find today may be different from the answers you find tomorrow, but I'm sure there will be answers. :p enjoy

Yesterday morning, before church, I logged onto the site for a few minutes. I know now I was led to read this thread about asking for a sign from God. The last post about praying to God, "I am lost, show me the way" seemed like it was meant just for me.
Driving to church, I said it out loud. And, I asked God for a sign. I did feel lost. I felt like I had no answers to the current situation I had been praying about for quite some time now.
At that moment when I turned the corner, I saw a poster for an advertisement for a printing company that read, "Do you need a sign?"
I had to laugh. I felt a surge of pure good run through me, a feeling of just being cared for and loved. I knew that sign wasn't necessarily a physical manifestation, but an angel thought from God. And, it was funny, nevertheless.
Sitting in church, I had so many thoughts and ideas about my current situation, knowing now what I need to do. Some of the ideas, which I know are from God, felt so outrageous at first. Impossible to me, even. But, I knew that since these ideas were from God that there would be a way for them to happen. In fact, it has happened already. I just need to see it unfold, and I know I will only grow spiritually from those experiences as well.
I am very grateful for this new site, for the 'real time' discussions on Christian Science.
Thank you!
