Hymn 136 "I love thy way of freedom, Lord" has become my traffic jam hymn!

The words "Till time and space and fear are naught" came to me one time when I was stuck in traffic and thought I'd be late for a meeting. It made me laugh and calmed my upset. When I got there, I found out the meeting started late anyway!

I, too, listen to the Bible Lesson. I try to pray for the commute before I get in the car. As I'm driving, I try to think and feel blessings for each person I pass, or who passes me.

Another hymn that I like for car troubles and traffic woes is "It matters not what be thy lot, so Love doth guide":)

So what if I'm a bit late for a meeting, as long as my thoughts and my co-attendees are embraced in Love. So what if my car breaks down, as long as my children and I are embraced in Love.

While sitting in what seemed to be yet another traffic jam on the motorway, I was inspired to see these fellow commuters' journeys for what they represented, what their purpose was, rather than simply seeing loads of cars in my way. In a sense, I was practicing lifting my thoughts from the material sense to a level closer to the spiritual sense. Rather than being filled with frustration, I was filled with thoughts of "love" (visits to grandma), "companionship" (visits to friends), "learning" (school runs), "adventure" (vacations), "potential" (house move), "progress" (new businessman). And I now challenge myself to come up with new words everytime I'm in traffic.

I record my Bible lesson on Sunday on my digital device, and listen to it daily on my 2 hour commute. Can also record ideas and inspiration which I sometimes transcribe to my diary.

Captiva, I like that idea.

Often I have used it as an excuse for other people's bad driving ("Oh,
maybe he had a fight with his wife this morning") or something like
that. But to use it in a more positive manner is a neat idea. Thanks,
I will try that.

Driving in traffic provides many opportunities to "love your neighbor as yourself." The human tendency is to react angrily to various impositions, honking horns, speeders, etc., and criticise others (even, perhaps, when we ourselves have unwittingly made a blunder that frightened other drivers), -- and even being glad "that we are not as other men." Such responses contribute to trouble on the road. If we want to make a positive contribution, however, we can actually contribute to safe thoroughfares by rejecting the beliefs that we or any other driver is anything less than the child of God, governed by the one perfect, alert Mind, and full or patience, courtesy, thoughtfulness, forgiveness, etc. When we think of other drivers in this way (as well as ourselves), sincerely and deep within our hearts, we demonstrate that "the accuser of our brethren is cast down". Entertaining such true, uplifting ideas are naturally manifested in more harmonious experiences on the road for everyone.

A DRIVER’S PSALM
By
NEWUNFOLDMENT

When on the highway of life,
We drive through potholes,
Or important milestones,
We are safe in the ark.

The lights are green on this highway,
The amber ones twinkling in between;
Keeping us alert and full of attention,
Grateful for our transportation.

On this highway of life,
MIND is the Driver,
LOVE is the vehicle,
And TRUTH is the way.

Then let us know,
That we are always protected,
Because ‘The right way
Wins the right of way.’ [MY232:6]
